On February 22, members of the Janusz Korczak Pedagogy Students’ Research Society visited Ažulaukė a, where they toured the Vilnius Region Education Museum. The institution is located in the historic building of a former school dating back to 1927, which was transferred in 2013 to the Ethnographic Museum of the Vilnius Region. Today, it is a place where testimonies of Polish education in the Vilnius region are carefully collected and preserved.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore rich exhibitions presenting historical teaching aids and classroom equipment – from items related to the exact sciences to archival textbooks and documents. Particular interest was drawn to exhibitions dedicated to individuals who made significant contributions to education in the region, as well as to the opportunity for direct contact with the exhibits – sitting at an old school desk and browsing through historical books.
The aim of the visit was to gain a deeper understanding of the history of education in the Vilnius region, to highlight figures particularly distinguished in its development, and above all to establish cooperation with the museum and open the way for further joint initiatives. As part of the trip, at the initiative of the Society’s artistic section, workshops on making fabric dolls were also held. This visit demonstrated how important it is in the training of future educators to cultivate the memory of the region’s school traditions and to show that regional education can combine history with practice, creativity, and active artistic engagement.
