On 13 May, the Branch of the University of Białystok in Vilnius hosted a first aid training session, organised at the initiative of the Student Self-Government Council as part of the 22nd Podlasie Festival of Science and Art, held this year under the theme "Science is the continuous discovery of reality" – Albert Einstein.
First aid is a skill that can save a life. In emergency situations, what matters most is a quick response, composure, and basic knowledge of how to provide proper help until emergency services arrive.
During the training, participants had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the basic principles of responding to situations endangering health and life. Topics covered included, among others, assessing the condition of an injured person, calling for help, and the steps to take in the most common emergency cases.
The meeting was not purely theoretical, however. Participants were also able to test their skills in practice, training in first aid techniques on special training manikins. This gave everyone the chance to practise basic life-saving actions in safe conditions.
The training was organised in cooperation with the Polish Medical Association in Lithuania.
