PFNiS: Economics Competition for Youth from the Vilnius Region

14.05.2025

On May 13, the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok hosted the Economics Competition for Youth from the Vilnius Region, organized as part of the Podlasie Festival of Science and Art. This year’s festival motto was: “Never disregard phenomena that seem extraordinary to you!” – Alexander Fleming.

The main goal of the competition was to spark young people’s interest in economics – not only as a practical discipline present in everyday life but also as a fascinating science that develops logical thinking and the ability to understand economic processes. The event also aimed to inspire young people to make conscious economic decisions, support education in the Polish language, and provide opportunities to engage with the academic community.

The competition covered topics such as the basics of micro- and macroeconomics, issues of entrepreneurship, the labor market, and personal finance – in line with the curriculum for grades 10–12.

Twelve students took part in the competition:

  • 5 from Adam Mickiewicz Lyceum,

  • 5 from St. John Paul II Gymnasium,

  • 2 from Władysław Syrokomla Gymnasium.

Five winners were selected: one first place, three second places, and one third place:

  • 1st place – Patryk Jan Sawko (Władysław Syrokomla Gymnasium),

  • 2nd place – Bogusław Bojarowicz (Adam Mickiewicz Lyceum),

  • 2nd place – Łukasz Gajdamowicz (Adam Mickiewicz Lyceum),

  • 2nd place – Adrian Iwanow (St. John Paul II Gymnasium),

  • 3rd place – Michał Józef Guszcza (St. John Paul II Gymnasium).

Awards for the winners (1st–2nd place) were funded by the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok. In addition, all participants received gifts from Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania: Rita Tamašunienė and Jarosław Narkiewicz.

During the break, while the evaluation committee was reviewing the works, participants had the opportunity to listen to Economics students’ presentation titled “Young People without Work – Does Education Protect against Unemployment?”.

The event was organized by the Friedrich August von Hayek Scientific Circle of Economics Students (KNSE) and the Career and Promotion Office of the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok.
