International Interdisciplinary Student-Doctoral Scientific Conference

On May 15, the University of Białystok Branch in Vilnius hosted the International Interdisciplinary Student-Doctoral Scientific Conference "Young Borderland of Europe: Environment, Society, Economy", organised by the University of Białystok Branch in Vilnius and the Doctoral School of the University of Białystok.

The official opening of the conference was conducted by: dr hab. Urszula Wróblewska, Associate Professor UwB – Dean of the UwB Branch in Vilnius, dr hab. Ewa Gruszewska, Associate Professor UwB – Director of the Doctoral School of the University of Białystok, and dr hab. Krzysztof Korotkich, Associate Professor UwB – Vice-Rector for Education.

During the plenary session, a lecture titled "A New International Order without a Third World War. A Non-Zero Probability" was delivered by Artur Plokšto – lecturer at the Lithuanian Military Academy and advisor to the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania.

The conference programme included numerous thematic panels devoted to, among others, issues of identity, culture and education in borderlands, migration, development policy, security, the economy, and new technologies and AI-based solutions. Participants presented research results on the contemporary social, environmental, and economic challenges facing Europe, as well as issues concerning border regions.

The conference had an international and interdisciplinary character. Students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers from Poland and abroad, representing various academic disciplines, took part in the event. Sessions were held in person, in hybrid format, and online.

The aim of the conference was to create a space for young researchers interested in the borderland issues of Europe to meet and exchange ideas, experiences, and research findings related to the environmental, social, and economic challenges of contemporary Europe. The event supported the academic development of students and doctoral candidates and inspired joint research initiatives.

  • Prof. Dr. Kamil Kardis – Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Presov in Presov, Slovakia

The conference also featured a competition for the best conference presentation, organised by the UwB Branch in Vilnius and the Polish Business Forum "Korona" in Vilnius. The competition was aimed at students of the UwB Branch in Vilnius presenting papers in Panel III "Digital Horizon: AI Technologies and Linguistic Innovations in the Service of Development" and Panel IV "Regional Challenges: Security, Capital, Education."

The aim of the competition was to promote high-quality scientific research and to improve the skills of presenting research results. Presentations were assessed by the Competition Committees according to criteria covering the structure of the paper, its substantive value, and the form of presentation.

During the closing session of the conference, the competition winners were announced, and awards and diplomas were presented to the participants whose presentations were rated most highly by the Competition Committees.
