A Meeting with Smok Wesołek

At a time when winter is slowly giving way to spring and its stories seem to fade along with the melting snow, winter tales continue to live on in the student theatre. It was these very stories that briefly stopped time and carried the youngest visitors into a world of imagination.

On 26 February, the UwB Branch in Vilnius hosted another edition of "A Meeting with a Book" — an initiative of the Janusz Korczak Student Scientific Society of Pedagogy. On that day, young guests from Year 2 of the Adam Mickiewicz Secondary School in Vilnius were transported into the world of the story "Smok Wesołek and the Winter Guests" by Małgorzata Korbiel and Marysia Panas.

During the event, the story was not only read aloud but also brought to life in a cardboard puppet theatre. Together, participants explored new words and phrases from the tale and discussed their meanings. The children reflected on the story's moral — what winter encounters can teach us and what it truly means to be hospitable. They also talked about what was funniest, most interesting, and most "dragon-like" in the story.

"The dragon's unexpected guests brought joy and warmth to his castle. Although Wesołek expected nothing in return, the mice's gratitude spread throughout the entire forest. No matter how big or small you are — within each of us lies the power to do good."

"A Meeting with a Book" is an initiative aimed at showing children that literature can be more than just reading — it can be a source of conversation, play, and shared extraordinary moments. Thanks to the dedication of the Student Scientific Society of Pedagogy, every such gathering becomes a small celebration of books and imagination.
