On 23 April, World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated around the world — a holiday that promotes reading and a love of literature. The date is not coincidental, as it marks the anniversary of the deaths of great writers, including Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.
On this occasion, at the Branch of the University of Białystok in Vilnius, members of the J. Korczak Student Scientific Society of Pedagogy welcomed Year 4 pupils from the Konstanty Parczewski Gymnasium in Nemėžis as part of the "Meeting with a Book" series.
The children not only took part in the event that had been prepared for them, but also had the chance to visit the university and briefly step into the role of students by attending a lecture together with them.
During the event, pupils were introduced to the book "The Amazing Adventures of Ten Socks (Four Right Ones and Six Left Ones)" by Justyna Bednarek. Games and integration activities were also part of the programme, transporting the guests into the world of the story, while the students gained an excellent opportunity for practical experience in working with children.
The aim of the initiative is to instil a love of reading in the youngest participants, develop their imagination and creativity, and show that a book can be a fascinating adventure, full of emotion, play, and creative activity.
